New Delhi: Central Pollution Control Board chairman Susheel Kumar on Wednesday said that only industrial pollution is not squarely responsible for polluting the River Ganga.
Susheel Kumar added that municipal discharge is more responsible for polluting Ganga.
Speaking on Ganga cleaning project, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said 700 industrial units have been issued notices for polluting the river.
The minister said that they have been given time till 31st March 2015 to install hi-tech sensors at affluent discharge points to self-monitor the level and nature of effluents and pollutants.
The sensors will send real-time data on discharges from factories to a central server and will automatically send alerts when effluents breach permissible limits.
The industries failing to comply with the norms will be taken to task.
