Emotions scarier than aliens: Will Smith

Will Smith, Hollywood`s daredevil hero famous for shooting down aliens and zombies, admitted Monday he found it more frightening to handle the intense emotions involved in his latest movie "Seven Pounds".

Tokyo, Feb 09: Will Smith, Hollywood`s daredevil hero famous for shooting down aliens and zombies, admitted Monday he found it more frightening to handle the intense emotions involved in his latest movie "Seven Pounds".
"It`s very terrifying for me as an artist to make a movie with no aliens, no explosions and no special effects," the 40-year-old told a news conference in Tokyo to promote the movie.
"I generally do not cry in real life," he said. In the film, Smith`s character sets out on a mission to change the lives of seven people after feeling guilty about a car accident in which seven others died. The film was directed by Gabriele Muccino, who also worked with Smith on the 2006 rag-to-riches story "The Pursuit of Happyness." Smith said his trick for crying scenes was actually to try to hold back his tears on camera. "When you`re trying not to cry it`s much more painful for the audience than when you watch someone who`s trying to cry," he said. "It`s very rare in life that you`re actually trying to cry," he said. "The fight of trying not to cry is what looks powerful on screen." The rapper-turned actor, one of the richest people in the United States, has starred in Hollywood blockbusters including "Men In Black" and "Independence Day." He was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his portrayal of boxer Muhammad Ali in 2001 in "Ali" and again in 2006 for his role in "The Pursuit of Happyness." Despite saying he does not cry often, Smith earlier confided he was reduced to tears after Barack Obama was elected the first black US president. Bureau Report
