Mumbai high-rise fire: Seven dead, at least 25 rescued; situation under control

At least seven persons were killed and several others injured when a major fire broke out in a 22-storey residential building in Chandivali area here on Saturday evening.

Powai: At least seven persons were killed and several others injured when a major fire broke out in a 22-storey residential building in Chandivali area here on Saturday evening.

The fire broke at the 14th floor of the residential multi-storeyed Lake Home building here, a fire official said. However, the reason for the breakout of fire was not known.

15 fire brigades were rushed to the spot and fire has been brought under control. The injured have been rushed to Hiranadani Hospital, as per reports.

Meanwhile, a fire department official said that they have rescued several people trapped inside the building. “We have rescued over 25 people,” he said.

“The blaze began on the 14th floor of the Supreme Lake Lucerne​ building, and spread to the two floors above. The situation is under control. Cooling operation is on,” the official added.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Chief PRO, Fire Service, PS Rahangdale said, "Many people were rescued. Those who remained in the lift or went outside got trapped but those who went inside have been saved. Lift was charred and we rescued 4-5 suspected from there."

He further said, "In all 32 people were affected by the fire, out of them seven are dead (five men and two women). Out of the seven that were killed in the fire, five were inside the lift and in the common passages."

Meanwhile, a fire also broke out at the Rahul nagar slums in Bandra West, where three people were reportedly injured.
