Goodison Park: Javier Hernandez's 18th minute stike led Manchester United to a win at Goodison park against Everton.
After the last week’s drubbing it was a very solid performance by the Red Devils. Evidently the back four had a lot to prove and they did it in style. Vidic was clearly in top form ably supported by Phil Jones and Johnny Evans.
Even up front Cleverly, Welbeck and Chichirato played brilliantly and kept the pressure on Everton through out.
Everton also had their chances with Jake Rodwell enjoying a good game and coming close twice to score a goal with thundering shots.
In the 76th minute Apostolos Vellios replaced Leon Osman and with Saha being a mute spectator more or less during the entire game, this was the last ditch effort from Everton to get a goal and hope to level the scores.
Danny Welbeck was substituted for Antonio Valencia and Hernandez by Berbatov. Everton were clearly pushing but the defense of Vidic and Jones coped well.
Meanwhile Cleverly injured himself and had to be replaced by Nani.
Ross Barkley replaced Diniyar Bilyaletdinov at the start of second half.
It was a tricky first session at Goodison Park as Manchester United took the lead in the 18th min. courtesy a tap in from four yards by Chicharito after which Everton came back rather strongly to put Man U on the defensive.
The young guns of Man U (Welbeck and Cleverley)again impressed keeping the pressure on Everton and displaying solid skills and coming up with goal threatening plays.
But Everton also had their moments and nearly got an equalizer when Leighton Baines hit the post from a free kick. Jake Rodwell also did well to win possession from Cleverley and came up with a powerful shot which went just wide of Man U goal.
Louis Saha came up two strikes at the goal late in the first half but De Gea had no trouble collecting the two weak efforts.
Leighton Baines produced a stellar effort hitting the post from just outside the D. It was a lucky escape for Man U and De Gea who had no clue about the ball.
Marouane Fellaini had done well to win a free kick displaying strong build to ward off the challenge from Jonny Evan.
Couple of counter attacking moves which saw Everton breaking out and threatening De Gea only to be denied by some solid and disciplined defending by Vidic and Phil Jones.
Everton struggled from the start to get anything going their way but between 30’ to 40’ minutes Everton forwards kept Man U defence on their toes.
Jack Rodwell picked up the first yellow of match when he tried to stop Phil Jones after he had fallen to the ground courtesy a well timed tackle from Park Ji-Sung from behind.
GOAL !!! With just 18 minutes in the game Javier Hernandez tapped the ball into an open Everton goal to give Man U the lead.
Cleverley had been putting pressure on Everton full backs and that opened up some space for Evra to breeze in and slide in a low pass to Chicharito who just tapped the ball in from four yards.
United have concentrated more on their defence meaning Rooney is playing in midfield with Welback at far left.
Everton were on the offensive and the defense rich Man U line-up featuring Phil Jones, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra were undeterred.
Man U started off the proceedings but Everton got the ball and Seamus Coleman immediately went for goal and de Gea was in action with an easy save.
