Rooney, Van Persie safe from wage cuts

Manchester United stars Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie will reportedly not suffer wage cuts if their club fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

London: Manchester United stars Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie will reportedly not suffer wage cuts if their club fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Some members of the United squad are facing that situation under the terms of their contracts but strikers Rooney and Van Persie are protected from cuts through the deals negotiated for them by their representatives.
According to the Daily Star, the duo have agreements worth around 250,000 pounds-a-week and will stay on those terms next season - if they remain at the club - even if United finish outside the top four. The report mentioned that United is still hoping to secure a new contract with Rooney, who will have only a year remaining on his current deal at the end of this season. Rooney is on a warm-weather rehabilitation break in Egypt to aid his recovery from a groin injury and United boss David Moyes is hoping he will be fit to return to the side a week after at Chelsea, the report added.
