London: Former Manchester United manager David Moyes was being investigated by police on Thursday over allegations he assaulted a man in a wine bar.
An incident between Moyes, 51, and a 23-year-old man is said to have happened in the Lancashire town of Clitheroe, northwest England, on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said: "Officers attended the bar at about 10:00 pm yesterday and it was reported that a 23-year-old local man had been assaulted by a 51-year old man. He did not require hospital treatment. "There are a number of differing accounts which we need to work through to try to establish exactly what has happened. No-one has been arrested at this stage." The local newspaper, the Clitheroe Advertiser, reported that Moyes was having a drink with a friend when an "alleged minor scuffle" broke out in the bar. Moyes was sacked in April after a disappointing 10 months in charge that saw United fail to qualify for the Champions League. He was among several names linked with the Celtic manager`s job on Thursday after Neil Lennon stepped down as boss of the Scottish champions. Moyes is a former Celtic defender.
