The Cellular Operators Association of India, a body of GSM and CDMA mobile service providers, today said that the government should take steps to vacate the unused spectrum lying with various agencies under it.
GSM mobile operators added 95.94 lakh more subscribers in February, taking the overall user base to 69.70 crore at the end of the month, industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said Monday.
GSM industry body COAI has written to Department of Telecom (DoT) not to implement a proposal of "mandating only" BSNL and MTNL connections for government staff and enterprises as it would be "anti-competitive".
GSM industry body COAI has endorsed sectoral regulator Trai's suggestions to implement a flat spectrum usage charge (SUC) on operators, even as Reliance Jio Infocomm has raised issues over the proposal.
High reserve price for spectrum and legal issues were among the reasons that led to telecom operators in India staying away from the second round of airwaves sale, a top official of GSM industry body COAI said Wednesday.
