August records monsoon deficiency of 22 percent

The month of August has recorded a monsoon deficiency of 22 per cent, highest in the season so far, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said even as the overall deficit declined marginally to 11 per cent.

More than half the country has received normal rainfall: IMD

As many as four states, which contribute more than one-third of total foodgrains production, and five crops totals to one-fourth of total output are most hurt by deficient rains this year, a rating agency said on Wednesday.
