The Nepal government has decided to cancel Mount Everest expeditions this year as well after routes above the Base Camp were destroyed by the deadly avalanches triggered by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the Himalayan country on April 25.
The first woman conqueror of world's highest summit Mt Everest, Bachendri Pal on Monday urged the Centre to provide adequate facilities, including drinking water and good quality sunglasses, to jawans discharging their duty on the border.
Expeditions to Mount Everest this spring in Nepal have come to a standstill as local Sherpa guides and foreign climbers began to descend from the base camp of the world`s highest peak, stakeholders said.
In a bid to clean Mt. Everest of waste accumulated over decades of climbing, the Nepal government has introduced a new provision -- effective the coming spring season -- according to which every climber will have to bring down at least eight kg of garbage to base camp while returning from the expedition, an official here said Monday.
Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to scale Mt Everest, has been conferred with `Virangana Lakshmibai Rashtriya Samman` by the Madhya Pradesh government for her contribution in women`s upliftment in the country.
