Hathras gang-rape case: Centre issues notification for CBI to take over probe

"Centre issues notification for CBI to take over the probe into alleged gang-rape and death of a woman in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh," reported PTI news agency. The PTI said that the notification has been marked to a suitable branch of the premier agency and probe teams will be dispatched to the crime scene along with forensic experts immediately after the registration of an FIR. The incident of the alleged brutal gang-rape, murder and forcible cremation by the police of a 19-year-old girl has sparked furious protests and demonstration against the police and the Uttar Pradesh government across the country.

UP Police files case against AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar under Epidemic Act

The case has been registered under the Epidemic Act as the AAP MLA was found to be in violation after he made a visit to the Hathras gang-rape victim's house on October 4 though he had tested positive for COVID-19 on September 29. Kuldeep Kumar went to meet the victim`s family six days after testing positive, though it is not known whether he has tested negative for COVID-19.

Hathras case: UP govt gives 10-day extension to SIT to submit its probe report

The Uttar Pradesh govt has given a ten-day extension to the SIT, which was constituted to probe the shocking Hathras gang-rape case, to submit its probe report. The order to this effect was passed by Awanish K Awasthi, State Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, UP government. “Following the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the time given to the SIT to submit their report to the CM has been extended by 10 days,” Awanish K Awasthi said. Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court while hearing a plea related to the Hathras case expressed "shock” over the “horrible" incident.

The UP govt led by CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday called for a probe by the CBI into the alleged gang-rape and murder of a Dalit girl in Hathras district. In an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the UP government sought its directions for a CBI probe into the shocking incident, which has become a massive talking point in the recently. The Supreme Court should also monitor the CBI investigation into the Hathras case by keeping the public interest litigation (PIL) pending before it, the affidavit said. The affidavit said that a "vicious campaign" has been unleashed on social media, TV and print media to defame the Uttar Pradesh government.

Hathras case: Forensic report says victim not raped, she suffered 'fracture'

The post-mortem report of the girl who was gang-raped and butally assaulted by four men in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras two weeks ago has revealed that she was strangulated and had also suffered fracture in her spine. The post-mortem report has been prepared by Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. It may be recalled that the 19-year-old girl had died at Safdarjung Hospital just a day after she was referred from Aligarh. The post-mortem report revealed that the victim suffered fracture of "C6 cervical vertebra" and there was "extravasations of blood along the fracture line" and the underlying spinal cord was "contused with ascending oedema".
