TRAI writes to key ministries, associations, NIC, others on new norms for bulk SMS

The regulator has written to key stakeholders across sectors informing them at length about the rules, and urging them to advise entities and organisations under their jurisdiction to "strictly comply with the new regulatory requirement without further delay". The National Informatics Centre (NIC) provides technology support to governance services.

TRAI asks telcos to submit names of principal entities not following TCCCPR 2018 rules

In order to protect the interest of consumers, it has been decided that scrubbing of SMS by TSPs shall be suspended temporarily for seven days to enable the principal entities to register the template of SMS so that no inconvenience is faced by the customers.

TRAI implement new SMS template, disturbs OTP services

TRAI has directed the telcos to implement the new SMS template, and it has been live since midnight of March 8, 2021. Earlier, the telecom industry was not ready for this change and therefore, it led to the delay in the implementation of the new SMS template.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made amendments to New Tariff Order (NTO) allowing consumers to have 200 channels instead of 100 at the same price of Rs 130."There were 100 channels that were given at Rs 130 and it included mandatory channels broadcasted by Prasar Bharati. Now you have 200 channels in Rs 130 excluding the Prasar Bharati channels," said RS Sharma, TRAI Chairman.
