Change your mindset: Uma Bharti's message to 'English-speaking class' over Shivraj Singh Chouhan's road statement

BHOPAL: Union Minister Uma Bharti has a message for the “English-speaking classes” - Change your mindset!

Coming out strongly in support of colleague and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's bizarre road statement, Bharti on Monday said, “Certainly there are world-class roads in Madhya Pradesh, including the VIP Road in Bhopal which is of world standard. We should shun this inferiority complex that the US is better than India.”

Last week, the state Chief Minister claimed that roads in Madhya Pradesh are much better than those in the United States.

“When I got down at Washington Airport and travelled on roads, I felt roads in MP are better than US,” said the Chouhan during his six-day visit to US. Social media had a field day with Chouhan's statement.

Pointing fingers people's mindset, Bharti said, “The chief minister's statement has started a debate. There is a need to change the mindset of people, especially the English-speaking classes (which leads them to think) that in every sphere West is better than India."

"In many areas, we are far better than that country and there is a need to change the mindset of people," a statement Bharti reiterated throughout the press conference.

Reacting to the social media trolling over Chouhan's statement, the union minister said she was hurt by people's reaction, and as a true patriot she has come out openly in support of him and addressing this press conference today, she said.

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India would certainly march ahead of rest of the world in many areas. At many multi-national companies, top brains are Indians," said Bharti, the Minister for Drinking Water & Sanitation.

Between 2005-06, the relations between Bharti and Chouhan had sour after the former was denied the post of chief minister.
