Safety is a major concern in India, especially for women. The Delhi gang-rape in December last year highlighted how unsafe women were in this country. It also brought to the fore the callousness and sheer apathy of our police force. Not only women, people from all walks of life feel insecure and believe that the government is not taking adequate steps for their protection. ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ - ‘Mudda Aapka’, therefore discusses safety issues which confront citizens of this country and ways to tackle it. It also talks about how justice can be provided to the victims. One of the issues that a victim has to deal with after an incident of crime is the lack of co-operation from the cops. A lot of victims refrain from going to the police station to report a crime due the insensitive and indifferent behaviour of the policemen. More often times than not, the already traumatised person has to face further trauma and humiliation while dealing with the cops. In this episode, the guest on the show, ex-Director General of Central Reserve Police Force, K Vijay Kumar concurred with the sentiment. He said, “When you go to a police station, and if a police officer doesn’t behave well then it discourages you. It is very important that a policeman should conduct himself well.” “We have to draw a line between the criminals and victims,” Kumar added. Nonetheless, he stressed on the point that a policeman also has to deal with a criminal in the proper manner. “Criminals are a minority but they also have their rights,” Kumar said.
