  • PM Modi thanked world leaders as their congratulatory messages kept pouring in after he led BJP to a super-sized victory for a second term in office. Those who called Modi included Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and former prime minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

  • The Dalai Lama congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on their success in the Lok Sabha election 2019. "It fills me with admiration and pride to see India, the world's democracy, emerging as leader in the community of nations," news agency ANI tweeted quoting him.

  • Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan mocked the Congress for eyeing the prime minister's post, but ending up with a tally which falls short to even help it get the chair of leader of the opposition. Paswan further said he had predicted victory of his ministerial colleague Smriti Irani from Amethi against Rahul Gandhi.

  • The Election Commission (EC) is likely to meet on Saturday to finalise the list of winning candidates to be handed over to President Ram Nath Kovind, according to news agency PTI. Once the list is finalised, the three commissioners will seek an appointment with the President.

  • A monumental vote share of 53.25 per cent propelled the NDA, comprising the BJP, Chief Minister Nitish Kumars JD(U) and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswans LJP towards a stupendous victory in Bihar, where it ended up winning all but one of the 40 seats. This is the best performance for any political formation in the state in many decades.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday received his official certificate of election from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. He received the certificate from his party colleagues. Taking to Twitter, he said, "Party colleagues from Kashi gave me the official certificate of election from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency! Feel happy to be representing one of the oldest and most vibrant centres of Indian culture."

  • Nearly 12 per cent of members in the newly elected Lok Sabha is below the age of 40, according to news agency PTI. The 16th Lok Sabha had eight per cent of MPs below the age of 40.

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the state voters rejected the clan, caste and dynasty-driven politics in the state in the Lok Sabha election. He said the BJP fought the polls on issues of development, governance and nationalism. He also claimed the Lok Sabha election was the first one without any anti-incumbency against the government.

  • Andhra Pradesh: A legislative party meeting of the YSR Congress Party will take place in Vijayawada on Saturday at 10.30 am followed by its parliamentary party meet post which Jaganmohan Reddy is expected to fly down to Hyderabad to meet the Governor ESL Narasimhan.

  • US President Donald Trump telephones Prime Minister Narendra Modi to congratulate him on his, BJP's historic election victory.

  • Acknowledging the contribution of each and every member of his team for the BJP`s resounding success in the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi said that the last five years have been a learning experience as he met and greeted the officials and staff of the Prime Minister`s Office (PMO) at the South Block. Senior officials of the PMO, including Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Additional Principal Secretary PK Mishra and Secretary to PM Bhaskar Khulbe, felicitated Modi for his party`s thumping victory in the general elections.

  • President Ram Nath Kovind hosts a banquet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in honour of the outgoing Union Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • For the first time, the 17th Lok Sabha will have a record 8 lady members from various parties in Maharashtra, in an indicator of growing women`s empowerment. Among the 71 women MPs elected from all over India, the Maharashtra contingent will account for around 10 per cent of all the lady representatives in the country`s highest law-making institution.

  • Bill Gates congratulated PM Narendra Modi on his historic win. Taking to Twitter he said, "Congratulations @narendramodi on a remarkable win in #IndianElections2019. Your continued commitment to improve health, nutrition, and development will significantly improve lives of many. @BJP4India"

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "The sun sets on this term but the brightness our work has brought will continue to illuminate the lives of millions. A new dawn awaits, a new term beckons. We are even more determined to fulfil the dreams of 130 crore Indians and create the New India all of us dreamt of."

  • Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha congratulated PM Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Ravi Shankar Prasad on the win in Lok Sabha election 2019. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Congratulations Hon'ble PM @narendramodi, on your great win! Congratulations also master strategic @AmitShah & our family friend @rsprasad in particular. It's a time to celebrate in the party which was mine too, till recently. I salute you all wholeheartedly."

  • Out of 542 MPs who will take oath as members of the lower house, 78 are women with Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal leading at 11 each. The 17th Lok Sabha will have the highest number of women candidates since 1952

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday evening. The Prime Minister tendered his resignation along with the Union Council of Ministers. The President accepted the resignation and requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new government is formed.

  • ECI has officially declared the results of all the 542 seats for which counting started at 8 am on May 23. The last seat declared was Arunachal West which was won by Kiren Rijiju of the BJP. The final BJP tally is 303, while the total NDA wins are 354. Congress restricted to 52

  • Trinamool Congress will analyse and undertake a review of Lok Sabha election results 2019 on Saturday. Taking the first step after the BJP stunned TMC in its bastion of West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee-led party suspended Mukul Roy's son Subhrangshu, a TMC MLA, from the party. Mukul Roy was once a close aide of Mamata Banerjee but he quit the party in Septem,ber 2017 and joined the BJP in November 2017.

  • Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan, who won from the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency, on Thursday attacked Rashtriya Janata Dal chief chief Tejashwi Yadav. Calling the RJD leader his younger brother, Chirag said that Tejashwi has too much ego and was not ready to listen to anything. "He attacked the chief minister (Nitish Kumar) and the kind of launguge he used was not even used by either his father Lalu Prasad of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. We too do nit use such a language for Lalu Prasad Yadavbut Tejashwi has broken all limits," said Chirag while adding that he tried to reason with Tejashwi but failed.

  • BJP's super show in West Bengal in Lok Sabha election 2019 could see a change in the political equations in Madhya Pradesh. Several posters hailing BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, who is the party incharge of West Bengal, as Tiger of Madhya Pradesh have been plastered across Indore. Till now only former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivrahj Singh Chouhan was called as tiger of Madhya Pradesh.

  • NDA's cabinet meeting ends, resolution to dissolve 16th Lok Sabha passed.

  • "Who wants to be in a sinking ship?" asks Dilip Ghosh in reply to an ANI query on if he is in contact with MPs and MLAs who may want to cross over from TMC. "Even earlier many people were in contact with me, it'll increase going ahead. When there is a possibility that a government could fall, people leave."

  • Ivanka Trump sends her wishes to PM Modi. "Congratulations Narendra Modi on a great victory! Exciting times ahead for the wonderful people of India!" she writes.

  •  DMK president MK Stalin congratulates Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for their victories.

    "I extend my heartiest congratulations to Naveen Patnaik for being re-elected as Chief Minister of Odisha for the fifth time. I have no doubt that the state of Odisha will prosper immensely from his political leadership and experience," tweeted DMK president MK Stalin.

    "I congratulate my friend and the Andhra Chief Minister-elect @ysjagan for his fantastic performance in the Parliament and Assembly elections. Wish him a successful tenure as Chief Minister to take Andhra and Southern India to greater heights," he added.

     

  • More than 1.54 lakh voters exercised NOTA (None of the Above) option in Punjab where Congress registered an impressive victory by winning eight of the 13 Lok Sabha seats. As many as 1,54,423 voters (1.12 per cent of total votes polled) pressed the NOTA option, as per election office data.

  • Narendra Modi has repeatedly said that there cannot be any compromise with India's peace, national security and territorial integrity - all of which have been targeted by Pakistan, either directly or indirectly, in the past several decades.   • Bhutan king Namgyel Wangchuck and the country's Prime Minister Bhutan Lotay Tshering telephoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to congratulate him on returning to power in the Lok Sabha elections.

  • Election Commission declares results for 541 out of 542 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party has already bagged 302 seats and is leading on one. Counting is underway for one seat.

  • Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot reaches AICC office to meet former Madhya Pradesh CM Motilal Vora. The duo is likely to discuss the Congress Working Committee meeting tomorrow. 

  • Bhopal chief minister Kamal Nath has called a review meet to discuss the party's defeat in Lok Sabha on May 26.

     

  • "I'm upset, there was a delay in seat-sharing and process of alliance, it wasn't fair. Unless 'dharma' of alliance is followed wholeheartedly, it will not be successful," says Congress'Sadanand Singh alliance in Bihar, reports ANI.

  • JD(S) workers clash with supporters of Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh, who was backed by the BJP, in Karnataka's Maddur Taluk. Few persons were injured in the incident.  

     

  • Yogendra Mishra, President of District Congress Committee- Amethi, resigns from the post taking responsibility for the defeat.

  • Karnataka Congress Campaign Committee President HK Patil has resigned from his post. In a letter to party president Rahul Gandhi, he says, 'It is time for all of us to introspect. I feel it my moral duty to own up the responsibility, hence, I submit my resignation from the post.'

  • Newly-elected BJP lawmakers are likely to reach Delhi for a two-day meet, beginning tomorrow on May 25. All the MPs have been directed to reach the national capital by tomorrow morning for this meet. The party has booked Parliament's central hall for two-days on May 25 and 26. 

  • West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee to hold a review meeting with party leaders at her residence in Kolkata's Kalighat tomorrow at 3 pm. Party top command and all other candidates are expected to attend this meet analysing the poll results. 

    As per sources, the party insiders feel that polarization of votes and Left's vote share transforming into BJP's vote share has been the primary reason for this poor performance.

  • All BJP legislators, MLC, district presidents and the Mayor from Varanasi will meet PM Modi at 4:30 pm in Delhi.

  • Four newly elected MPs – Hasmukh Patel, Bharatji Thakor, Ratan Singh Rathore, and Parbatbhai Patel – will resign from Gujarat Assembly. Amit Shah and Smriti Irani will also resign from the Rajya Sabha. 

     

  • Odisha: Taking responsibility of Congress' poor performance in the state, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik has resigned from his post. 

  • PM Modi to visit President Ram Nath Kovind to tender his resignation after 6 pm today. He'll also visit Varanasi on Tuesday, May 28. 

     

  • Election Commission declares results for 536 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party has already bagged 302 seats and is leading on one. Counting is underway for six seats. 

  • PM Modi will address his last cabinet to meet today evening. The Union Cabinet will recommend the dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha in this meet, following which the PM Modi will meet President Ram Nath Kovind. The term of the current Lok Sabha is ending on June 3.

     

    The outlay of the next cabinet will also be discussed in this meeting. The 17th Lok Sabha will be constituted before June 3.

     

  • The BJP became the first non-Congress party to cross the 300-mark in Lok Sabha. The party is still leading on three other seats, as per latest Election Commission data. Results have been declared for 534 seats. Counting is still underway in nine seats.

  • Karnataka: Prajwal Revanna, JDS candidate and grandson of party supremo HD Deve Gowda, offered to resign from Hassan seat to make way for his grandfather. Gowda had relinquished the Hassan seat to pave the way for Prajwal and instead chose Tumkur from where he lost yesterday. "I have decided to resign," he said. 

    Revanna, who emerged victorious in his maiden electoral by a margin of 1,42,123 lakh votes, is the only JDS candidate who won in the Lok Sabha Election 2019. 

     

  • PM Modi and Amit Shah met veteran BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi on Friday morning.

    "Dr Murli Manohar Joshi is a scholar and intellectual par excellence. His contribution towards improving Indian education is remarkable. He has always worked to strengthen the BJP and mentor several Karyakartas, including me. Met him this morning and sought his blessings," he tweeted.

  • Over 33,000 none of the above (NOTA) votes were polled in Himachal Pradesh, where the ruling BJP swept the Lok Sabha elections winning all four seats in the state. 

  • PM Modi tweets, "Called on respected Advani Ji. The BJP’s successes today are possible because greats like him spent decades building the party and providing a fresh ideological narrative to the people."

  • "The credit of the victory goes to Lord Mahadev, Narendra Modi and the people of Begusarai, who made up their the mind since the very first day. There's no place for those who favour bloodshed and social inequality," says Union Minister Giriraj Singh, who trounced his nearest rival CPIM's Kanhaiya Kumar by a staggering margin of over four lakh votes in Bihar's Begusarai.

  • PM Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah reach party veteran LK Advani's residence in Delhi. 

  • West Bengal: TMC's New Town office vandalised on late Friday night. The party has accused BJP workers behind it. A police investigation is underway. 

  • "Winning & losing is a part of life. My best wishes to Congress leaders & workers.There was plenty of hard work that went into elections. No doubt, it's disheartening but let's keep the fight on.I congratulate PM Mr. Narendra Modi,BJP & NDA," tweets Robert Vadra.

  • The BJP has won 298 seats and leading on five others while the Congress has won 52 seats, as per latest the EC Election trends. The Trinamool Congress and the DMK bagged 22 and 23 seats respectively. In all, the result has been declared for 527 seats. The counting for remaining 15 seats is still underway. Biju Janata Dal has bagged five seats and leading on seven others. Janata Dal-United, an ally of BJP in Bihar, won 16 seats. BJP ally Shiv Sena has won 18 seats while TRS won nine seats. YSRCP has won 21 seats and is still leading on one. BSP and National Conference are leading on one each.

  • Congress Working Committee to meet at 11 am on Saturday to discuss the party's performance in Lok Sabha election results 2019.

     

  • Indian shares jumped 300 points on Friday morning, as the euphoria surrounding BJP's landslide victory in the general election drove the bull run, with financials leading gains. The NSE Nifty was up 0.77% at 11,747, while the benchmark BSE Sensex was 0.79% higher at 39,116.78.

  • Election Commission declares complete election results for West Bengal. Trinamool has won 22 seats while the BJP bagged 18 seats and Congress two seats. The Left, which ruled Bengal for three decades, failed to open its account in the state.

  • UP Congress chief Raj Babbar tenders his resignation to chief Rahul Gandhi after the party suffered a massive defeat in the state, said sources. 

     

  • In West Bengal, incidents of violence are being reported from Cooch Behar's Tufanganj. Clashes erupted between Trinamool and BJP workers in Deocharai and Baksshirhat areas. As per reports, BJP supporters were celebrating the party's victory when TMC workers allegedly attacked them. Twelve BJP workers were injured in the incidents. After news of the incident spread, BJP workers allegedly attacked TMC members, injuring many. 

     

  • The BJP has won 294 seats and leading on nine others while the Congress has won 52 seats, as per EC Election trends. The Trinamool Congress has won 20 seats and leading on two while the DMK bagged 23 seats. In all, the result has been declared for 520 seats so far. The counting for remaining 22 seats is still underway. Janata Dal-United, an ally of BJP in Bihar, won 16 seats. The Shiv Sena -- another BJP ally -- has won 18 seats, YSRCP has won 21 seats and is still leading on one. In Telangana, TRS won nine seats, as per details updated by the ECI at 8:50 am.

  • Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy calls an informal cabinet meeting at 12.30 pm on Friday. He has called Janata Dal Legislature Party (India) meeting tomorrow at 1 PM in Bangalore. Janata Dal (S) party office will review the results of Parliamentary elections, says party spokesperson Ramesh Babu.

  • Canadian PM Justin Trudeau‏ congratulated PM Modi for his party's resounding victory in the world’s largest democracy. In a statement, he says, “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his re-election.Over 39 days of polling, a record number of Indian citizens cast their votes and more women voted than ever before in the world’s largest democracy."

    “Canada and India share tremendous people-to-people ties, with over one million people of Indian descent calling Canada home. Our longstanding friendship, together with our shared values, will continue to bring our two countries closer and help create new opportunities for our people.

  • Smriti Irani, the 'Giantslayer' of  2019 Lok Sabha Elections, polled over 4.6 lakh votes to register a win in the political hotbed of Amethi, a constituency which was considered a bastion of the Gandhi family for decades. Irani tweeted, "A new morning for Amethi, a fresh resolution. Thank you, Amethi. You placed your faith in development, let the lotus bloom. Thanks, Amethi #PhirEkBaarModiSarkaar #VijayiBharat to Amethi"

     

  • BJP has won 290 Lok Sabha seats and is leading on 13 other seats, as per the latest details on the website of Election Commission of India. The Congress party has been declared victorious on 51 seats and is leading on one seats. In all, the result has been declared for 512 seats so far. The counting for remaining 30 seats is still underway. All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) won 19 seats, while is leading on three seats in West Bengal. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won four seats and is leading on eight seats in Odisha. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu won 22 seats, while is leading on one seat. Janata Dal-United, an ally of BJP in Bihar, won 16 seats. The Shiv Sena -- another BJP ally -- has won 18 seats, YSRCP has won 21 seats and is leading on one. In Telangana, TRS won nine seats, as per details updated by the ECI at 7:50 am.

    The counting of votes polled in the Lok Sabha elections is underway across the country, which voted for 542 seats in seven-phases, beginning April 11 and ending on May 19. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party swept the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, leading the NDA to a super-sized victory for a second term in the office. The Election Commission has officially declared wins in 541 of 542 seats. The counting is underway in just one seat, from where the saffron party is leading. The BJP became the first non-Congress party to cross the 300-seat mark in the Lok Sabha. The party surpassed its 2014 performance when it won 282 seats.
