2014 Commonwealth Games, Day 3 - As it happened...

Day 3 of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games will feature 15 sports with events with 30 gold medals at stake. Indian athletes will feature in nine sports – badminton, boxing, cycling, hockey, judo, lawn bowls, shooting, table tennis and weightlifting.

Shooting: Rahi Sarnobat won gold in Women's 25m Pistol event as she beat compatriot Anisa Sayyed, who settled for silver. With two more medals, India take their overall medals tally to 13 with four gold, six silver and three bronze medals and are placed fifth on the medals table.
Earlier, Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul win Gold and Silver medals, respectively, in the women's 10m air rifle event. Both are good friends and held the nerves till the very end to finish one-two. In 10m Air Rifle event India managed to win a Gold after eight long years. In 2006 Tejaswini Sawant won a gold for India in this category. Chandel scored 206.7 points to provide India the second gold medal from the shooting arena after Abhinav Bindra's swansong gold medal effort yesterday. Whereas, Ayonika Paul, who is just 21, had to be content with a silver. With three more medals, India took their overall medals tally to 13 with four gold, six silver and three bronze medals and were placed fifth on the medals table. Prakash Nanjappa also won silver in men's 10m Air Pistol event with 198.2 points. Australia's Daniel Repachloi won the event with a stunning score of 199.5. It's India's first medal on Day 3. One poor shot midway into the final round costed India's Prakash Nanjappa a gold. Last year during the ISSF World Cup in South Korea, he won a bronze medal. The other Indian in the fray, Om Prakash had failed to qualify for the final round. Indian star boxers Vijender Singh and Manoj Kumar will be in action in their respective weight categories. As usual, there is hope some medals coming from the shooting range with Om Prakash and Prakash Nanjappa competing in the men`s 10m Air Pistol event. Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul will make India`s presence felt in the women`s Air Rifle event.
