Twitter has begun reinstating its followers, although the platform has conducted a clean-up operation to remove bots and dormant accounts. Twitter is recognised for cleaning up accounts to make them secure and to remove spam and bots. Twitter has announced that it will not allow users to distribute private individuals' media files, such as photographs or videos, without their authorization.
To be specific, one needs to inform Twitter on the eligible category that matches the profile, information to be verified and the next step will be to submit the request. For now, there are six categories under which profiles can fall for verification which include Government officials and institutions, Companies, brands and organisations, news journalism and organisations, Entertainment, Sports and gaming, Activists, organisers, and other influential individuals. Twitter will send a mail to that user and it will inform that users the process can take a few weeks depending on how many verification requests are currently in queue.
The investigation will determine the veracity of the content and not Twitter, it has asserted while asking the microblogging platform not to interfere in the investigation process. In its communication to Twitter, the ministry has stated that a complaint has already been made by one of the concerned parties before the local law enforcement agency questioning the veracity of the toolkit and the same is under investigation. Twitter has unilaterally drawn a conclusion in this matter and arbitrarily tagged it as 'manipulated media', government sources said.
As per Twitter, it is currently rolling out to a limited group of "creators, journalists, experts, and nonprofits." The deal will help Twitter build a subscription feature, such as letting users access premium features from news outlets or a writer`s Revue newsletter, Twitter added.
On its support page, Twitter has confirmed that the emails were genuinely sent by the company but this is not some phishing attack or scam. However, it confirmed that the company accidentally sent that email to users. So don’t panic and do whatever the company has asked you to, i.e., just ignore the email that was sent by Twitter.
Spotted by noted leaker Jane Manchun Wong, the feature will allow users to un-send a tweet for a brief period of time after it is posted. Primarily, it means users can get rid of a tweet with a spelling error or repeated word, which are common with the fast-paced nature of the platform and during live events. Twitter users will have a brief window in which they can “cancel” the sending of their tweet before it is posted.
Some of the Twitter users spotted by being on the app’s latest beta version and similar to iOS devices, a user can only join a room but won’t be able to start one by himself. Some users have pointed out that Android users on Twitter, signing up for the app’s latest alpha or beta versions and then uninstalling and reinstalling the Twitter app will enable the feature. The Spaces feature for Android might give Clubhouse app a run for their money when it gets officially tested and the latter is yet to announce a release date and is still working on its Android app.
