A devastating tragedy struck Bihar's Madhubani district on Wednesday when seven children went for a swim in a deep water-filled pit in a field, leaving five dead and two others hospitalized. Preliminary reports indicate that the tragedy took place in the Raghepura-Yadupatti Chaur area of Benipatti, where soil had earlier been excavated using a JCB machine. 

On most days, more than 200 students use the space, many of them preparing for competitive examinations.

Villagers said the matter had earlier been discussed several times through the local Panchayat, but no agreement could be reached between the families.

According to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mansi Police Station, the collision involved a truck, a Scorpio SUV and an auto-rickshaw.

The affected children were quickly shifted to the Mahishi Health Centre, where doctors and medical staff worked continuously to attend to the large influx of patients. The sudden arrival of hundreds of students led to overcrowding at the facility, with health teams carrying out examinations and treatment simultaneously.

The accused, identified as Zhou Huan (born January 20, 1985), is a resident of Hunan province in China. He was intercepted near the ICP gate while riding a scooter bearing a Nepali registration number.
