Puri city of Odisha has become the first city in the country where pure water will be available from the tap for 24 hours. For this, the Chief Minister of the state Naveen Patnaik has started a mission called 'Drink From Tap'. The government of Odisha aims that it will soon arrange pure water from the tap in 16 more cities of its state.
Puri on Monday became the first city in India to achieve a 24*7 quality drinking water supply. It achieved the milestone after Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated 'Drink From Tap' mission in the coastal city. The initiative to provide water supply adhering to 'Quality Standards of IS 10500' will also benefit over 2 crore tourists.
The Supreme Court allowed the Puri Rath Yatra with conditions and asked the state government and the Centre to work in tandem. A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde noted that the state government has the freedom to stop the Rath Yatra, if it observes a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Puri.
