2008 Malegaon blast case: Joshi alleged that he was subjected to custodial torture and pressured to implicate senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders, including the current Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who at the time was only a Member of Parliament.
Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur had on Wednesday stoked controversy with an interjection during DMK leader A Raja's reference to Nathuram Godse in Lok Sabha which was later expunged from the record. The issue later triggered a protest by the Opposition. Rahul had later termed Pragya Thakur a 'terrorist' and tweeted, "Terrorist Pragya calls terrorist Godse, a patriot. A sad day, in the history of India`s Parliament."
Sadhvi Pragya, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, is an MP from Bhopal. She successfully defeated senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh in the Lok Sabha election held earlier in 2019.
The Special NIA Court, however, granted Sadhvi Pragya an exemption for today from attending the court in connection with the 2008 Malegaon blast case.
Newly elected BJP MP from Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, on Monday created a ruckus in Parliament by adding the name of her spiritual guru with her name while taking oath, drawing strong protest from the opposition.
Congress' Digvijaya Singh lost to BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur by a huge margin of 3,64,822 votes in the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat. The BJP swept Madhya Pradesh winning 28 of the 29 seats in the state.
She also thanked the party workers and people of Bhopal for supporting her in the entire election campaign.
Sadhvi Thakur said that she felt sorry for her remarks and wanted to do some "soul searching".
All this praise for Godse represents a force within his own ranks that threatens everything he wants to do.
BJP has said that it does not endorse Sadhvi Pragya's views on Mahatma Gandhi.
BJP's Anant Kumar Hegde and Nalin Kateel have also praised Godse as they came out in Thakur`s support.
Naidu has stepped up efforts to bring together parties which are against the BJP ahead of a possible meeting of the grand alliance after the election results are declared on May 23.
Naidu met the poll panel officials on Friday.
The court expressed displeasure over their absence in the courtroom and the next hearing has been fixed for May 20.
"Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt, he is and will remain a deshbhakt. Those calling him a terrorist should instead look at themselves," Sadhvi Pragya had said.
Congress also compared Sadhvi to a 'witch' over her statement that "Nathuram Godse was, is and will remain a 'deshbhakt'."
