Seeking to set its house in order in the wake of a vertical divide over the Telangana issue, the ruling Congress will hold meetings of its leaders from the district level this week.

Hyderabad: Seeking to set its house in
order in the wake of a vertical divide over the Telangana
issue, the ruling Congress will hold meetings of its leaders
from the district level this week.

A meeting of district presidents, party coordinators, PCC
office bearers and ministers would be held at Gandhi Bhavan,
the state Congress headquarters, on September 30 in the
presence of Chief Minister K Rosaiah and PCC president D
Srinivas, party sources said today.

Besides, a luncheon meeting of the party MPs would be
held on September 28, the sources said.

The meetings have been planned following a divide in the
party and a war of words over the Telangana issue between
leaders of Telangana and non-Telangana issue.

The divide is such that the Telangana leaders have
demanded a separate Pradesh Congress Committee for the region.

Seeking to enforce discipline in the state unit, the
state Congress president made an appeal to the leaders not to
speak to the media on controversial issues. Srinivas also
wrote a letter to party MPs and MLAs making the appeal.

Srinivas met Congress Working Committee member K Keshav
Rao today to discuss the party affairs.

"This is a courtesy call. Naturally, various issues
came up for discussion," Srinivas said after the meeting.

Keshav Rao, supporting statehood for Telangana has said
that Telangana protagonists should remain united.

"I appeal to all the people and parties in Telangana
to show respect for each other and work as comrades in arms to
attain Telangana through peaceful and Constitutional means,"
he said.
