Combing operations for Maoists in Guntur resume

Police Wenesday resumed combing operations to track Maoists in Guntur district of the state after a gap of more than five years.

Guntur: Police today resumed combing operations to track Maoists in Guntur district of the state after a gap of more than five years.

The decision comes after Saturday`s Maoist attack on a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh, police said.
The thick Nallamala forests and the talukas of Durgi, Adigoppala, Muppala, Rompicerle, the giant Nagarjuna Sagar irrigation project and Pulichintala irrigation project were subjected to an intensive search, while suspected Maoists were questioned.
It may be recalled that Palnadu area in Guntur district was once a Maoist stronghold. However, the grasp of the Naxals has weakened during the last five years due to police operations and attractive rehabilitation packages offered to surrendered ultras.
