Hyderabad: A four-year-old girl on Sunday fell in an open borewell at an agricultural field in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, police said.

The incident occurred this morning when the girl, Girija, was playing and accidentally fell inside the open borewell in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Ranga Reddy district while her grandparents were working in the field, Manchal police station inspector P Jagadeeshwar told PTI.

"Rescue efforts are going on. Oxygen is being supplied into the hole," he said.

Police and revenue officials are also in the process of digging up a parallel pit to pull out the girl safely.

It seems the borewell is over 40-feet deep. A parallel pit is being dug up and we are trying to save the girl, the minister later told reporters.
