Maoist surrenders in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: East Divisional Committee Maoist member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoists), Pothuru Rajarao alias Bupathi, surrendered before police here Monday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Visakhapatnam region) Swathi Lakra told reporters that Rajarao surrendered because of health problems and being fed up with the ideology of the Maoists.

He was involved in a number of cases including attack on police stations and the kidnapping of Malkangiri District Collector Vineel Krishna.

He was in the Naxalite movement from 2001 till now and carried a cash reward of Rs three lakhs on him, she added.

Rajarao, 32, was first arrested in 1997 in a naxal violence case and lodged in jail from 1999-2001 and after being out on bail, he again joined the naxal movement.

Meanwhile, stating that the naxal movement in the region was under control, the DIG appealed them to come into the mainstream and participate in government`s developmental activities.
