Hyderabad: Hyderabad police today asked
students not to participate in the proposed `Garjana`
(Student`s roar) programme on January 3 as they have denied
permission for it.

The students of Joint Action Committee of various
political parties have decided to organise a massive rally
christened "Student`s Garjana" (student`s roar) on January 3
in support of separate statehood for Telangana region.

Police have denied permission for the proposed rally
anticipating that anti-social elements and non-students might
merge with the students and create trouble, Hyderabad police
commissioner B Prasada Rao said.

Replying to a question, Rao said the students leaders did
not seek any permission from them, but widely publicised the
proposed rally in which as they claimed four to five lakh
students from Telangana districts are likely to participate.

"We have sufficient force to deal with any situation
effectively," he said, adding that there were 112 platoons of
various forces besides 8,000 odd city police personnel.
