Islamabad: Reiterating Pakistan government's commitment to the SAARC initiative, Nawaz Sharif, Thursday, said that the regional body has made commendable contribution in promoting greater regional integration in South Asia.

Speaking at the inaugural session of SAARC Home Ministers' Conference, Sharif said, “Pakistan has always been supportive of SAARC. South Asia is blessed with tremendous resources, SAARC will provide a platform to harness it for peace and prosperity in the region.”

“Let's work to fight terrorism, corruption & trafficking,” he added.

The Pakistani PM also spoke about the steps taken by his government to tackle terrorism.

“At National level, remarkable gains made against terrorists through op Zarb-e-Azb and the effective implementation of National action plan reflect our government's determination to eliminate scourge of terrorism from our soil for good,” he said.

India's Home Minister Rajnath Singh is also part of the deliberations being held in Islamabad.

Earlier, Pakistan's Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, in his opening remarks, said, “We must do a reality check of what we have achieved so far and what still remains to be done.”

“It is time for us to seize the moment, to leverage our potential and overcome our challenges,” he said.

“Pakistan is committed to SAARC process and desires to see it a successful regional organization,” Khan added.
