Arms and ammunition recovered after encounter in Assam

The Army recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after an encounter with extremists in Dima Hasao district.

Haflong (Assam): The Army on Monday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after an encounter with extremists in Dima Hasao district.

An exchange of gunfire took place this morning between the 9th Madras Regiment and some militants near Impoi village under Mahur police station, official sources said.
The encounter lasted for few minutes, but the extremists managed to flee leaving behind some weapons.

The Army recovered one AK-56 rifle, 50 rounds of live ammunition, one pistol, two grenades and huge amount of explosives, the sources said.
It is suspected that the NSCN cadres are involved, but further investigation is on into the incident, they added.
