Convert disputed Assam-Nagaland border into LoC: CM Zeliang

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Thursday suggested converting the disputed boundaries with neighbouring Assam as "Line of Control" to ensure that no new settlement comes up there.

New Delhi: Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Thursday suggested converting the disputed boundaries with neighbouring Assam as "Line of Control" to ensure that no new settlement comes up there.

"I have suggested creation of Line of Control along the Assam-Nagaland border. LoC with additional guards will ensure that there is no new settlement in the disputed territory," he told reporters here after a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Zeliang said he had a discussion with the Home Minister on the situation along the inter-state border which had witnessed violence in recent past.

"We are deploying forces to control the situation. We will contain the situation," he said.

Nearly 20 people lost their lives and 50 others were injured following police firing and attack by armed groups from Nagaland along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district in Assam.

Asked about the recent appointment of an interlocutor for the Naga peace talks, the Chief Minister said time should be fixed for completion of the peace negotiation.
