Guwahati: Days after Anna Hazare
undertook a fast to pressurise the Centre to draft the Lok Pal
bill to check corruption, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi
on Tuesday said he supported the cause.

"Yes I support the Lok Pal Bill and Hazare`s struggle
and we in the state government will take all steps needed to
check corruption", Gogoi told reporters here.

In the drive to check corruption, he said he would
include the civil society "which has become very assertive of
late which is a very encouraging sign".

"I only hope that they (civil society) do not become
politically motivated as they go down the lane", he said.

"Our government has filed nine cases with the CBI to
probe various scandals but Gujarat chief minister Narendra
Modi has not filed any such case. Does that mean there is no
corruption in the called developed state of Gujarat?”,Gogoi
asked.

"If we come back to power for the third consecutive
term, rooting out corruption will be our top priority and it
will be our topmost agenda", he said.
