Soldier hurt in militant grenade attack in Assam

A soldier was injured when suspected militants lobbed a grenade at an Army camp in Assam's Chirang district, police said Friday.

Guwahati: A soldier was injured when suspected militants lobbed a grenade at an Army camp in Assam's Chirang district, police said Friday.

The incident took place late Thursday night at the Panbari Army camp located in Chirang district, police said adding that the injured soldier has been taken to the Army Base Hospital at Basistha in Guwahati.

The condition of the injured soldier is stable now, said Lt Col Suneet Newton, Army PRO based in the Narengi Army cantonment.

As part of ongoing operations against the NDFB's anti-talk faction militants, the security forces had on the early hours of August 20 gunned down five militants at Dwimaguri village.

The same evening in the village, the militants killed a school girl suspecting her to be a police informer. The NDFB faction had also warned similar action against those informing the police about the whereabouts of the militants.
