Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday directed authorities to launch a vigorous operation to nab those involved in the killing of two persons in Baksa district yesterday.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday directed authorities to launch a vigorous operation to nab those involved in the killing of two persons in Baksa district yesterday.

The Chief Minister reviewed the law and order in a meeting with senior officials here and directed the district administration and police to be alert and enforce security to prevent further violence in the district.

He said extortions, kidnapping and killings would not be tolerated at any cost, an official release said.

A decision was also taken at the meeting to set up five new police districts in the state at Bishwanath, Hojai, South Salmara, Majuli and Sadiya.

The Chief Minister also announced that the Police Commissionerate in Guwahati will become functional from January next.

Two persons were kidnapped and subsequently killed in Labdanguri area of Baksa yesterday by suspected NDFB(S) militants.

Altogether 46 people have been killed in Baksa and Kokrajhar of Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) in May last.
