Patna: Congress on Wednesday approached the
Election Commission seeking strict action against JD-U chief
Sharad Yadav for his personal remarks against Rahul Gandhi,
saying these were aimed at spreading hatred and violated the
model code of conduct.
A party delegation headed by general secretary B K
Hari Prasad and secretary Ranji Thomas submitted a memorandum
to state Chief Electoral Officer S K Rakesh with a copy to CEC
S Y Quereshi, BPCC spokesperson Prem Chandra Mishra told PTI
here.
The Commission should take the matter seriously and
take strict and appropriate action against Yadav under IPC and
other sections of Representation of the People Act, the
delegation demanded.
Mishra, who was a member of the delegation, said that
Yadav`s comment on Sunday at Fatua about throwing Rahul in the
river Ganges had "incited enmity" between supporters of the
two parties.
"The statement is aimed at spreading hatred in the
state and society. It is derogatory and inflicted insult on
partymen," he said quoting the memorandum.
Union Minister for Rural Development C P Joshi said
his party had taken the remark against Gandhi "very very
seriously".
Meanwhile, Yadav said "What I said I have already
pointed out and I don`t have to give further clarifications."
Yadav said he had in course of his speech meant that
the lantern, bungalow and panja the symbols of RJD, LJP and
Congress be bundled and thrown into the Ganges as the leaders
of these parties did nothing for Bihar`s development.
BJP spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said much motives
were being read into the statement of the JD-U leader who had
always been decent in his remarks.
"People know what Congress leaders mean about decency
... are they decent when they make outrageous remarks against
BJP national president Nitin Gadkari," Hussain asked,
apparently referring to Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari`s
statement against Gadkari.
LJP supremo Ram Vilas Paswan and RJD leader Prabhunath
Singh said leaders should be decent while making speeches and
should leave no room for unnecessary controversy.
The BPCC spokesperson said the delegation also drew
the attention of the Election Commission to hoardings with
photographs of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy S K
Modi on the road to Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport
from here.
"We asked the Commission to take strict action," he
said.
