Patna: Freedom fighter and former Bihar
MLA Jagdish Narayan Singh died on Sunday at his residence at Barh
town in Patna district at 101 years, his family sources said.
His mortal remains were consigned to flames at Umaghat
on the bank of the river Ganga amid chanting of Vedic hymns.
Singh had actively participated in the freedom
movement.
He was subsequently elected to the state legislature
from Barh assembly constituency in 1946 and from Mokama seat
in 1952 and 1957 elections.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled the demise of
Singh and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
Singh was the source of inspiration for the succeeding
generation of people due to his immense contribution in public
life, Kumar said in a condolence message to the bereaved
family members.
