Patna: Deputy Chief Minister S K Modi on Tuesday alleged that RJD supremo Lalu Prasad had "usurped" reservation for poor people belonging to upper caste when the latter was Chief Minister in 1992.

Stating that former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur had provided three per cent reservation for the poor people among the upper caste, Modi said it was unfortunate that on becoming Chief Minister, Prasad snatched the right of reservation from them in 1992.
Modi was addressing a function to mark the 88th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Thakur.

Claiming that his government firmly believed in taking all sections of the society together towards its march to ensure inclusive growth and development with justice, Modi said, adding "but it is our primary duty to work for mahadalits among dalits, backwards among extremely backwards and poor and weak among the upper caste."
Modi said the state government had already decided to constitute a commission to suggest ways for the uplift of economically and socially backward poor people among the upper caste.
