Muzaffarpur: A man allegedly killed his wife and buried her body in an agricultural field in a village here before ploughing the ground to avoid suspicion.

The body of the woman, Pramila Devi, was found today with police suspecting it to be a case of dowry.
"She was married around a year ago to Lal Babu Ram of Dakshin Tola village. We suspect she was killed for dowry," Saraiya Station House Officer (SHO) Upendra Kumar said.

Ram allegedly killed Pramila and then took her body to his field and buried her, police said, adding he also ploughed the ground so that people do not suspect anything amiss.

"A few villagers informed us and we went to the spot to verify it. We found the body buried there. It has been exhumed and sent for post mortem," the SHO said.

Ram and his family members are absconding.
