Patna: Chief Opposition RJD on Monday attempted
to corner the Nitish Kumar government in the Bihar assembly on
the law and order front alleging that there was phenomenal
rise in the cases of cognisable offences.
Lalit Kumar Yadav (RJD) in a starred-question wanted to
know whether altogether 3069 cases of murder, 14001 theft,
3282 of kidnapping, 742 of rape and 970 related to road
robbery were reported in the month of December 2010.
Replying on behalf of the state government, the Minister
in-charge of Home, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, said the figures
provided by Yadav was +partially correct+ but the number of
cognisable offences had significantly gone down in 2010
compared to the corresponding period in 2001 when the RJD was
in power.
Choudhary said the state government was maintaining
consistency in reigning in the cases of cognisable offences
and elaborated the steps taken by it in this regard.
