Raipur: Chhattisgarh government has given nod for prosecution of two IAS officers allegedly involved in a "scam" in the Civil Supplies Corporation and sent a proposal to the Centre seeking its approval to move ahead in the case.
The senior bureaucrats, who were today shifted from their current posts, face cheating and criminal conspiracy charges, among others.
"The State Government has accorded sanction for prosecution of IAS officers Alok Shukla and Anil Tuteja (former Food Secretary and MD of Chhattisgarh State Civil Supplies Corporation, respectively) under IPC Sections 109 (punishment of abatement), 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant)," an official release said here today.
The approval was granted on July 17, it added.
"A proposal to prosecute both the officers under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was sent to the Government of India for approval. Power for granting sanction for prosecution (for all-India officers) vests with the Centre," it said.
Meanwhile, the Government transferred Shukla and Tuteja along with two other IAS officials on Tuesday.
As per the official order, Shukla, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Department, has been posted at?Mantralaya as Principal Secretary. Similarly, Tuteja, Director in Panchayat Department, has been posted as Joint Secretary in Mantralaya.
ACB had conducted simultaneous raids in the premises of?the Corporation and it officials across 12 districts in February this year.
During the raids, around Rs 4 crore in unaccounted cash and evidences pointing to irregularities in the Corporation running into several crores had surfaced. Twelve officials of Civil Supplies Department (under which the Corporation works) were also arrested.
At the time of raids, Shukla was Food Secretary, while Tuteja was Managing Director of the Corporation.
Following the raids, Opposition Congress had sought a CBI probe into the "scam".
