Raipur/Raigarh: Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar, who has earlier faced flak for his remarks that crimes against women were rising as their stars were not favouring them, has again issued a bold statement, saying that he has a whip for those officers who don’t work.
Reports on Tuesday said that Nankiram Kanwar made these remarks while addressing function in Korba on Monday.
Not only this, the Chhattisgarh Home Minister also raised serious doubts over the doctorate degree held by Union Minister and acting Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee chief Charndas Mahant.
Kanwar’s objectionable utterances have irked his own party colleagues who now say that he is trying to gain cheap publicity through such gimmicks.
Former Chhattisgarh Youth Congress chief Vinod Tewari said, “From Nankiram, he has now become Sankiram (eccentric).”
Kanwar was recently in news for sparring with Jashpur Collector LS Ken over the alleged corruption in distribution of ration cards at a public event.
Sparks flew when Kanwar, also the guardian minister of the district, pulled up the collector for "inaction" in curbing "corruption in making and distributing ration cards".
Unable to stand up the dressing down in public as he was sharing the dais with the Minister at the school enrolment drive -Shala Pravesh Utsav - held in Dodka village, Ken hit back at Kanwar asking him to prove the charges.
The collector asked the Minister to disclose the information on corruption and name the corrupt officials, saying he has not received any complaint in writing regarding any graft.
Kanwar retorted by saying "Am I telling a lie? How can you argue with a minister". When Union Minister Charandas Mahant was apprised of the incident, he slammed Kanwar, saying the minister often resorts to such gimmicks to score political brownie points.
Mahant even dared Kanwar to take action against the officials responsible for corruption instead of giving statements in public.
He also said that if the Minister has any information on corruption in the issuance of ration cards then he has the right to take action.
Kanwar, had in past, attacked senior Congress leader and former chief minister Ajit Jogi and said illegal coal was smuggled to Kolkata during latter’s tenure as the Collector of Korba in 1978-79.
Upset with his offensive comments against their leader, Jogi’s supporters will burn Kanwar’s effigy and hold a protest march in Korba today.
