Raipur: Maoists on Tuesday blew up a bridge over a rivulet in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, severing the road link between the district headquarters town and the strategically important Sarkeguda village, police said.

A CRPF camp is located in the vicinity of Sarkeguda.

The small bridge spanned the Mukarram nullah between Basaguda and Sarkeguda, additional superintendent of police Indira Kalyan Elesela told a news agency. The area is about 450 km away from the state capital.

No casualties were reported in the blast, he said, claiming that the incident showed Naxals' frustration with the construction of Bijapur-Jagargunda road despite their attempts to sabotage the work.

Forces were sent to the spot after the report of the blast came, he said.
