A Special Task Force (STF) jawan was on Sunday injured in a gun-battle between security personnel and ultras in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Sukma district, police said.

Raipur: A Special Task Force (STF) jawan was on Sunday injured in a gun-battle between security personnel and ultras in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Sukma district, police said.

The skirmish took place in dense forests under Kukanar police station limits where a joint team of security personnel was carrying out an anti-naxal operation, a senior police official told PTI.

While security forces were cordoning off?Mundapal jungle, they were confronted with a group of armed naxals who opened indiscriminate firing, leaving a jawan injured.

As soon as the security forces launched retaliatory attack, the naxals fled from the spot.

"A jawan sustained very minor injuries and was referred to Jagdalpur hospital," he said, adding that his condition was stable.

The operation was still underway in the region, located around 400 kms away from here, he added.
