Sukma Naxal attack: Chhattisgarh govt to honour martyrs

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday lauded the efforts and bravery of the jawans who were martyred in the Sukma encounter.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday lauded the efforts and bravery of the jawans who were martyred in the Sukma encounter.

A definite promotion is also on the cards for the constables who have survived.

"STF (Special Task Force) jawans had gone for a search operation this morning. I have met the injured constables. The courage they have shown is commendable.

The jawans were in a position from where they could not protect themselves from the naxals. It is the first time that STF jawans have been martyred in such huge numbers," said Raman Singh.

"The survivors (injured constables) would definitely be given a promotion for their show of bravery," Singh added.

Singh may attend the ceremony which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had called Singh, expressing concern after seven jawans were killed in its Pidmel forest in Sukma district.

Seven Special Task Force (STF) jawans were killed and 12 injured in an encounter.

The encounter took place when a team of STF was out on a search operation.
