AAP leader Naveen Jaihind's wife Swati Maliwal to be next DCW chief

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed party leader Naveen Jaihind's wife Swati Maliwal as the next chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed party leader Naveen Jaihind's wife Swati Maliwal as the next chief of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).

Maliwal is currently advisor (grievances) to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. An RTI activist and the youngest member of India Against Corruption, Maliwal has been associated with Kejriwal's work at 'Parivartan' since 2006.

Given the tense relationship between the party had with outgoing DCW chief Barkha Shukla, Kejriwal appears to have reposed faith in a confidante.

Maliwal's appointment as advisor (grievances) had also triggered a controversy with opposition partied targeting Kejriwal for giving space to people from the party in government.

Maliwal was an software engineer before she quit the fast lane to take up social work and as an RTI activist.

Reacting to the development, former AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said, “AAP has completely gone off the path of alternative politics which it had set out to take. Politically neutral people should be appointed on such posts. AAP also misusing these posts like others.”
