Advocate opposes conference on Good Friday

New Delhi: Senior lawyer Lily Thomas urged Chief Justice of India HL Dattu on Monday not to hold a conference of high court chief justices on Good Friday as it is an important day of deliverance of humanity from sin.

While urging the chief justice not to hold the conference on Good Friday, Thomas said the conference was being held on a holiday just to save a working day and in the past too this conference was held on important holidays.

Asking Thomas to move an application making her prayer, Dattu said in 2007 the chief justices conference was held on Valmiki Day and in 2009, it was held on Independence Day. At that time, nobody had any grievance.

"In 2007 and 2009, nobody had any grievance. Is it because I am CJI (chief justice of India)? What happened to spirituality back then? If you want to oppose it, please file a petition and let the court take a decision," Justice Dattu said.
