New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday slammed the Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government over its inability to properly prosecute those involved in the 2G scam.
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain also accused Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram of standing in the way and not allowing former Union Telecom Minister A. Raja to be properly prosecuted in the case.
“See…the UPA government is in trouble. Raja is in jail due to the 2G spectrum scam and Chidambaram is standing in the way. Karunanidhi has come to Delhi, surely there must be some secret. The clouds of trouble are looming large over the Congress Party,” said Hussain.
The telecom scam, one of India’s biggest graft cases ever, may have cost 39.57 billion dollars in revenue to the public exchequer as per the country’s apex auditing body, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
Raja was sacked in November last year and later arrested after being charged with giving away telecom licences in 2008 for a pittance, at meagre prices of 2001 in the CAG report.
