CBI arrests Mumbai I-T officer in graft case

CBI officials laid a trap and caught the CA while accepting the bribe amount.

New Delhi: An Income Tax officer and a
chartered accountant were arrested in Mumbai for allegedly
demanding bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for giving a favourable order,
the CBI said on Friday.

The action came on a complaint that the officer of
Ward No 19(3)(1), Piramal Chamber in Parel had demanded Rs 1.5
lakh as bribe through the Chartered Accountant for getting
favourable order in a case pending with him.

CBI officials laid a trap and caught the CA while
accepting the bribe amount.

"The ITO was also arrested... Searches conducted at the
residential and office premises of the accused persons
resulted in recovery of an amount of Rs 24.39 lakh (approx)
from the premises of the CA," a CBI statement said.

A case was registered against the duo under charges of
criminal conspiracy and and Section 7 of the Prevention of
Corruption Act, 1988 and both the accused were sent to
judicial custody by the designated court, the statement said.
