New Delhi: With Delhi Police planning to
take over 50 community centres for security purpose before the
Commonwealth Games, the MCD today said it will open some
temporary sites for weddings and other social functions to
ensure that the public is not inconvenienced in any way.
"If the police take over the centres to house
paramilitary personnel for the Games, we will make some
temporary arrangement to facilitate the people to hold
marriages or other functions," Leader of MCD House Subhash
Arya said.
He said the MCD will temporarily allow holding of
ceremonies in some of its parks if the need arises, so that
the public do not face any inconvenience. Arya, however, felt
that the problem will not be so big as only 50 out of the 216
community centres will be occupied for security purposes.
MCD officials said the community centres, all in prime
areas of the city, will be occupied from August 20 to October
20 and bookings will remain suspended during that period. The
Games will be held from October 3 to 14.
During August to October, there are more than 25
auspicious days and the suspension of bookings in these
centres may pose problems for people.
The Delhi High Court had earlier banned weddings in 675
municipal parks from January. The 60-odd farmhouses and some
100 MCD parks, which are out of the purview of the ban, will
be the alternative available to those wanting to arrange
weddings during that period.
