New Delhi: Congress on Monday demanded that the AAP-led Delhi government challenge the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity's (APTEL) in the Supreme Court to stave off a rise in the national capital's power tariff.
Accusing the AAP of making a turnaround from its earlier stand of resisting any possibility of a rise in power tariff, Congress wondered what was holding back the ruling party of Delhi from going to the apex court.
"Earlier they were blaming the discoms of fudging balance sheets. How after making those allegations against the power companies have they agreed with this order? Why are they not challenging this?" DPCC spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee asked.
In an order, the APTEL asked the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) to pass on Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC) for two quarters (from October 2014 to March 2015) to the private power distribution companies within three weeks.
The party also blamed the BJP-led Centre and AAP for the financial crisis in the BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation, saying "it was the needless tussle and turf war between the Centre and the state government that has resulted in the present financial impasse."
She said due to lack of funds, the MCD "has not been paying" the old age, widow and handicapped pensions for the past many months, making the lives of the people miserable.
