Delhi bureaucrats posting row: Manish Sisodia takes pot shots at ex-IAS officials

New Delhi: A day after top serving and retired bureaucrats strongly condemned "politicisation" of appointments of senior officials, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday took pot shots at retired IAS officials.

Sisodia, a close confidante of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, today slammed the retired IAS officials on his Twitter account.

Here's what the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said:

Over 100 serving and retired IAS officials of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) cadre held a nearly two-hour-long meeting yesterday in which they expressed "anguish" over the way senior officials are being treated.

The meet was held at a time when officials have been caught in the turf war between the AAP government and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.

The bureaucrats yesterday urged both sides to create a conducive atmosphere so that they can discharge their duties freely.

A number of officials said they were upset with the AAP government as there were attempts to "publicly humiliate" senior bureaucrats.

"We view with great anguish the way IAS officers have been treated, publicly humiliated and subjected to character assassination. We condemn it. We urge the Lt Governor and the Chief Minister to create a conducive atmosphere where officers can function in a free and impartial manner," a resolution passed at the meeting said.

Acting Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin, Rajendra Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and senior bureaucrats from LG's office were present at the meeting. Around 60 serving and nearly 40 retired IAS officials attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, while speaking to media Sisodia today said that he was confident that relations between all officers and ministers are cordial and constructive.

"We are sure what we are doing is according to the Constitution. Transfer postings became an industry in Delhi and we stopped that, and that's why people are opposing us," Sisodia told media persons here.

"I can confidently say that relations between all officials and ministers are very cordial and constructive," he added.

On Wednesday, Sisodia had written to Lieutenant Governor Jung asking him under what provisions of the Constitution was he issuing directions and orders to the AAP Government in Delhi.

He sought the information under the provisions of the Constitution, the GNCT Act and the TBR.

Jung had earlier reiterated his executive powers and authority over administering the affairs of the capital city vis-a-vis the authority and powers to be exercised by Kejriwal under the Constitution.

In his letter Jung had written that he had 'constitutional power, to do transfers and postings'.
