Delhi government to seek public opinion on third phase of odd-even: Gopal Rai

Delhi government will seek public opinion on when to start third-round of odd-even scheme once the second phase of 15-day road-rationing plan is wrapped up on April 30, Transport minister Gopal Rai said on Monday.

New Delhi: Delhi government will seek public opinion on when to start third-round of odd-even scheme once the second phase of 15-day road-rationing plan is wrapped up on April 30, Transport minister Gopal Rai said on Monday.

After the first phase of odd-even scheme, the Arvind Kejriwal government had sought people's suggestion on when it should introduce its second phase of the odd-even scheme, aimed at tackling air pollution in the national capital

"The second phase of odd-even scheme has so far been a success as per reports. We have decided to seek public opinion on the introduction of third phase of odd-even scheme through dedicated website, email id, phones and messages.

"Besides, we will also seek people's feedback about their experiences during second round of the scheme," Rai told PTI.

Last week, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that government will seriously consider to implement the road-rationing plan for 15 days every month if the second phase turns out to be successful.

Asked about permanent implementation of the scheme, Rai said that it would take the government around one and-a-half years to do the same.

"As public transport is not in good condition so far, we can not implement it permanently. We will first have to upgrade public transport. In next one and a half years, we can consider implementing the scheme for 30 days every month," he said.

Government has suggested that parents should use car pooling to avoid problems with the authorities.

In the second round, cars with children in school uniform are exempted from the odd-even scheme. But parents have raised apprehensions over the fate of cars going to pick up children.
