Delhi govt cracks whip on misuse of industrial plots

New Delhi: Cracking the whip on increasing misuse of industrial plots, the Delhi government has cancelled allotment of land to three industrial units located in Bawana and Narela areas of the capital.

The cancellation was made on the recommendation of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), said an official statement on Sunday.

The government also issued notices to nine other units which were found misusing their industrial plots for trading or property dealing activities.

The plots were allotted under a scheme to relocate industrial units from residential areas.

"The thrust of the government is that the industrial plots are used for the intended purpose, and the quality of life improves in residential areas by relocation of industries," the government release said.

The government`s action came after the Supreme Court directed in 1996 that all industrial units in residential areas should be closed down and shifted to other areas of the capital.

About 23,000 eligible units were allotted industrial plots under the scheme.
