New Delhi: With the Right to Education Act
stipulating that no school can operate without recognition,
Delhi Government has started a process of identifying such
unrecognised educational institutions functioning in the city.

The education department of the city government has
already directed civic agencies MCD and NDMC to identify such
schools in their areas within next seven days.

"Notices will be issued to such schools to apply for
recognition and if they fail to get the recognition within
a stipulated time-frame then they will be shut down," said an
official.

Existing private schools that do not meet the
infrastructure requirement prescribed in the act would have to
upgrade their infrastructure within three years of coming into
force of the Act, which says, if they fail to do so, their
recognition should be withdrawn.
